Plea deal reduces initial felony counts tied to personal relationship; Moore receives probation, avoids jail time.

April 14, 2026 — Sherrone Moore, the former offensive coordinator and interim head coach for the University of Michigan football team, has been sentenced to 18 months of probation. The sentence comes after Moore pleaded no contest to charges of trespassing and harassment, which stemmed from a personal relationship following his firing from the university. This plea agreement resulted in the dismissal of more serious felony charges, including home invasion,  stalking, and breaking and entering.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Moore's legal troubles began after his departure from the University of Michigan. The charges were reportedly linked to a personal relationship and subsequent interactions that led to accusations of trespassing and harassment. Court documents indicate that Moore faced initial felony charges that carried potentially more severe penalties, but these were ultimately dropped as part of a plea deal.

Sources close to the case confirm that Moore's wife was present in court to support him during the sentencing. The probation will be supervised, and the terms of the sentence will likely include community service, mandatory counseling, and restrictions on contact with the individual involved in the harassment charges, though specific conditions were not detailed in the initial reports.

The plea deal represents a significant reduction from the initial charges Moore faced. The felony counts of home invasion, stalking, and breaking and entering were dismissed, reflecting a resolution that avoids further legal battles and potential jail time for the former coach. This outcome allows Moore to move forward without a felony conviction, though the probation carries its own set of legal obligations.

Moore's departure from the University of Michigan followed a period where he served as interim head coach during the team's successful 2024 season, leading them to a national championship amidst turmoil caused by NCAA recruiting violations that suspended head coach Jim Harbaugh. Moore's transition from leading a championship-winning team to facing legal charges has been a notable turn of events.

Details regarding the inappropriate relationship with a staff member at the University of Michigan that reportedly led to the charges are sparse, as the case focused on the subsequent actions of trespassing and harassment.

Representatives for Moore and the University of Michigan have not yet released detailed public statements regarding the sentencing.
