Puck report says the Roc Nation founder has picked himself for the Feb. 14 show at SoFi Stadium. The NFL and Roc Nation haven't confirmed it.

Developing story. Updated Oct. 20, 2026.

LOS ANGELES — Jay-Z has reportedly chosen himself to headline the 2027 Super Bowl halftime show. The NFL and Roc Nation haven't confirmed that, and no performer has been officially announced.

The claim comes from Puck, which cited multiple unnamed sources. The International Business Times (UK) summarized the report. Puck's sources reportedly say the decision "had long appeared inevitable." Representatives for the NFL and Roc Nation reportedly did not respond to requests for comment.

Super Bowl LXI is scheduled for Feb. 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

A decision-maker who may also be the headliner

Jay-Z's company, Roc Nation, struck a deal with the NFL in 2019 to advise on and help produce the league's music and entertainment. The agreement was reportedly worth about $5 million a year and was renewed in 2024 for another five years. Jay-Z, whose legal name is Shawn Carter, has had the final say on halftime performers since 2020. Super Bowl executive producer Jesse Collins told Variety in 2024 that "it's a decision that Jay makes."

If the report is accurate, he would headline a show his own company helps organize. The report doesn't say whether he made the final call himself or how the NFL's approval process worked.

Other names in the mix

Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus were reportedly among the artists considered, according to the same sources. There is no confirmation that either received a formal offer or was turned down. TMZ reported in September that Bieber and Harry Styles were on a "short list." Cyrus fueled speculation with a social media post, but an Apple Music "leak" image linked to her was unverified and was deleted.

Prediction markets have also been active. Kalshi traders have listed Jay-Z among the leading contenders alongside Cyrus. Those odds reflect betting sentiment, not inside information.

A late announcement

The silence is unusual. Kendrick Lamar was announced Sept. 8, 2024, and Bad Bunny on Sept. 28, 2025. This year, the NFL, Apple Music and Roc Nation hadn't named a performer as of Oct. 14, and the IBTimes report says that was still true as of Oct. 20.

Strong year on the road

The speculation follows a busy 2026 for Jay-Z. He has played anniversary shows for Reasonable Doubt (30 years) and The Blueprint (25 years). Reports say three sold-out Yankee Stadium shows in July grossed more than $42 million. He also played Paris and reunited the Fugees for two London shows at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. His HBO documentary JAŸ-Z in 8 premiered in September. He hasn't released a solo studio album since 4:44 in 2017.

Puck reports that Jay-Z could announce the booking during his upcoming SoFi Stadium concerts. Speculation about guests, including Beyoncé, is unconfirmed, and no guest performers have been announced.

Virtue.News will update this story when the NFL, Roc Nation or Apple Music make an official announcement.
