New York City – March 20, 2026

New York City's unofficial First Lady, Rama Duwaji, the wife of Mayor Zohran Mamdani, has deactivated an old X (formerly Twitter) account following intense public scrutiny over a series of resurfaced social media posts from her teenage years and early twenties.

Reports from outlets including the New York Post and Washington Free Beacon allege that archived content linked to Duwaji shows her using the N-word in a 2013 post, when she was reportedly 15 years old. One cited example includes a casual message reportedly reading something along the lines of “Helllll yeah, ni***. Super duper genius, excuse you.” The authenticity of the accounts and specific posts has not been independently verified by all sources, but screenshots circulating online have fueled widespread discussion.

The controversy extends beyond the racial slur. Additional posts attributed to Duwaji from around 2015–2017 reportedly include praise for Palestinian figures associated with militant groups, such as plane hijacker Leila Khaled of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and criticism of Israel, including a statement that Tel Aviv “shouldn’t exist in the place” and referring to its residents as “occupiers.” Other content allegedly criticized the U.S. military and blamed “white people” for various geopolitical issues.

Duwaji deactivated the account shortly after the reports gained traction, prompting further backlash and calls for accountability. Mayor Mamdani has previously described his wife as a “private person” who held no formal role in his campaign or administration, a stance City Hall has reiterated amid the unfolding story.

The revelations come amid ongoing scrutiny of Duwaji's past online activity, including earlier reports of her engaging with content related to the October 7, 2023, events in Israel. Community leaders and critics have expressed concern over the implications for the mayor's office in a diverse city like New York, where racial sensitivity and international relations remain flashpoint issues.

Neither Duwaji nor the mayor's office has issued a detailed public response to the specific allegations about the N-word usage or other posts as of this reporting. The incident has sparked debate on social media about holding public figures accountable for youthful online behavior versus context and personal growth.

This story continues to develop as more details emerge from archived internet content.
