DWade's Ex-Wife Asks Judge To Force Zaya To Wait Until 18 For Sex Change,
The ex-wife of Dwayne Wade is objecting to the name and gender changes of their child, formerly known as Zion. The child is transgender and has changed their name to Zaya. Siohvaughn Funches-Wade does not want these changes to be made to their child’s birth certificate. She is pleading with the court to make Zaya wait until the age of 18 to make the “monumental” decision.
This week, Siohvaughn Funches-Wade submitted a filing that accused Wade of trying to go around the requirements resulting from the Illinois final custody order judgment entered March 2011.
She points out that it says that they shall both discuss major “decisions affecting care, welfare, activities, health, education and religious upbringing.”
The former Miami Heat player and his wife, Gabrielle Union, both spoke out about, saying they accept Zaya's decision to be transgender.
Siohvaughn said to the court that Dwayne Wade “is positioned to profit from the minor child's name and gender change with various companies,” and that she was told that Zaya is in talks for a Disney deal.
“I have concerns that he may be pressuring our child to move forward with the name and gender change in order to capitalize on the financial opportunities that he has received from companies,” she wrote.
She also wrote that Wade "told me that he intended to make our child very famous…”
Siohvaughn is represented by Attorney Mark Gross. She suggested that Zaya "be given the opportunity at the age of majority, which is two and one-half years away.”
Neither Wade nor Union have replied to the allegations.
