House Speaker Pelosi Booed At Global Citizen Music Festival
Updated: Sep 25, 2022
When House Speaker Nancy Pelosi showed up unannounced at the Global Citizen music event in Central Park on Saturday night, she was met with a chilly reception.
Pelosi, bearing a white pantsuit and matching scarf, was jeered as she took the stage to speak momentarily, according to social media videos.
“As speaker of the house, I am here to thank you for your dazzling advocacy, entrepreneurial thinking, and determination as global citizens,” she told the crowd after her introduction.
“It’s thanks to your help that the United States recently enacted historic climate legislation, which will be a game changer,”
Some booing was distinct from the opening of the house speaker's speech on climate change and cutting carbon emissions, videos show.
The noise proceeded as boos and cheers rang out, and several people in the crowd started yelling for the entertainment to resume.
Nancy Pelosi attempted to continue her address, claiming that the measure would offer "better water and air for our children" as well as "less costly energy bills for their parents."
As Pelosi closed her remarks by revealing her grandchildren Paul and Thomas were in the audience, the crowd became restless and continued to make noise, prompting her to concede to keep her remarks short so as not delay more music.
The annual music festival offers free tickets to tens of thousands of fans who take action toward ending extreme poverty. This year's lineup includes some of the biggest names in music.
