IT Outage Causes Major Delays and Cancellations at Lufthansa Group Airlines

German carrier Lufthansa Group said Wednesday that an IT outage had caused major flight delays and cancellations across its different airlines. The group owns Eurowings, Swiss, Brussels Airlines and Austrian Airlines, all of which are affected by the outage.

The company Tweeted: “Currently, the airlines of the Lufthansa Group are affected by an IT outage. This is causing flight delays and cancellations. We regret the inconvenience this is causing our passengers.”

A spokesman for the group told AFP that they were unsure whether other airlines were affected as well. A crisis team has been assembled to identify the cause of the problem and determine how widespread it is.

Scenes at Frankfurt and Munich airports have reportedly been chaotic with trouble reported with check-in and boarding systems. Passengers were told to expect long delays or last-minute cancellations until further notice from Lufthansa Group on how to best proceed with their plans .

This IT problem has caused serious disruption for those travelling with Lufthansa Group airlines, leaving many travelers in a difficult situation without answers as to when or even if their flights will take off as scheduled.
