Outrage After “We’re Coming For Your Children” Chant at NYC Pride Event

At the annual NYC Pride event, LGBTQ activists could be heard chanting “we’re here, we’re queer, we’re coming for your children.” The chant sparked outrage on social media and in the community.

The chant was heard from a group of topless activists and drag queens during the march in Manhattan's Tompkins Square Park. The phrase has been used by some members of the LGBT community as a way to express their desire for acceptance and equality.

However, many people have taken offense to the phrase, saying it is inappropriate and offensive. One Twitter user wrote, “Not if we have anything to say about it, you're not. #LeaveOurKidsAlone."

The San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus also posted a YouTube video where they sang “We’re coming for your children.” The song speaks of “conversion" of young men to homosexuality which has caused further controversy.

LGBTQ activists have defended their use of the phrase saying it is meant to express their desire for acceptance and equality but many people are still offended by its use in this context.
