Staff writers at 'SNL' boycott over Dave Chappelle's hosting

Staff writers at Saturday Night Live plan to boycott this weekend’s episode of SNL because Dave Chappelle is the scheduled host.

Page Six reports that some staff writers have announced their plan to boycott the November 12th episode that Chappelle will host because of his controversial comedy special The Closer, which was bashed by LGBTQ+ communities.

This is his first comedy gig since The Closer.

“They’re not going to do the show,” an insider said to Page Six. “But none of the actors are boycotting.”

However, Dave Chappelle’s representative said that there wasn’t anything suggesting that anyone would boycott at the writers’ meetings they attended this week.

After the announcement, one SNL writer named Celeste Yim posted on Instagram, “I’m trans and non-binary. I use they/them pronouns. Transphobia is murder and it should be condemned.”
