The FBI Never Should Have Investigated Donald Trump and Russia says special counsel John Durham
Special counsel John Durham has concluded that the FBI never should have launched a full investigation into connections between Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and Russia. This report comes after a four-year probe launched by former Attorney General William Barr in May 2019.
The final report from Durham, which was released on May 15th, 2023, sharply criticized the FBI for their investigation into possible Russian interference in the 2016 election. It found that there were "significant concerns" with how the bureau handled its inquiry. However, it did not recommend any new charges against anyone involved in the case.
Durham's review at one point even veered into a criminal investigation related to Donald Trump himself, but ultimately failed to find evidence of wrongdoing or misconduct by any government officials. In response to this report, President Trump said that those responsible must face consequences and pay a "heavy price."
This news is sure to be welcomed by Trump and his fan who have long maintained that the FBI's investigation was politically motivated and unjustified. It also serves as another reminder of how politicized our justice system has become under this administration.
