VP Kamala Harris Was In Accident Miscommunicated As ‘Mechanical Failure’
On Monday, Vice President Kamala Harris was in a small car crash that was initially seen as a "mechanical failure."
Before 10:30 a.m. Monday, Harris was driving to the White House when her SUV driver “had a minor overcorrection and struck a curb,” Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said.
The accident was so severe that the tire needed to be replaced, stopping the VP's motorcade in its tracks, sources told The Washington Post.
Even though the VP's SUV crashed, the Secret Service initially described it as a "mechanical failure" in an alert to senior leadership.
Guglielmi blamed it on miscommunication.
“Initial radio traffic indicated this was a mechanical failure, and that was communicated to agency leadership by personnel supporting the motorcade movement,” he told the DC paper.
“After the protective movement was completed, leadership was verbally updated with additional pertinent facts that the vehicle struck a curb.”
