March 10, 2026 | Colorado Springs, Colorado– President Donald Trump has appointed Erika Kirk, the widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk and current CEO of Turning Point USA, to the United States Air Force Academy Board of Visitors (USAFA BoV).
The appointment, which appears to have occurred quietly over the weekend with no formal public announcement from the White House or the academy, replaces the seat her late husband held briefly before his assassination in September 2025. Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, had been appointed to the board by Trump in March 2025.

Erika Kirk is now listed as one of the president's appointees on the official USAFA Board of Visitors website. The 16-member board, which includes congressional members, military officials, and presidential appointees, advises the Secretary of Defense on key aspects of the academy, including morale, discipline, curriculum, instruction, physical equipment, fiscal affairs, academic methods, and other institutional matters.
White House spokesperson Olivia Wales confirmed the appointment in a statement, calling it "the perfect choice." "Charlie Kirk served proudly on the Board, inspiring not only the next generation of servicemembers, but millions around the world with his bold Christian faith, defense of the truth, and deep love of country," Wales said. "Erika Kirk will continue his legacy, and will be a fearless advocate for the most elite airpower force in the history of the world whose warriors keep our Nation safe, strong, and free."

Rep. August Pfluger (R-TX), who chairs the board, praised the decision and noted he had recommended Kirk's appointment months earlier. "I look forward to working alongside her to carry on Charlie’s legacy," Pfluger said.
Kirk, who assumed leadership of Turning Point USA following her husband's death, brings a background in business, nonprofit management, podcasting, and faith-based initiatives. She previously won Miss Arizona USA in 2012 and holds a Juris Master's from Liberty University School of Law.
The board plays a significant oversight role at the prestigious military academy in Colorado Springs, which trains future Air Force officers. Members serve terms of up to three years or until a successor is named.

This move has drawn mixed reactions online, with some viewing it as a fitting tribute to Charlie Kirk's influence and others questioning Kirk's specific qualifications for military education oversight. However, supporters highlight her commitment to conservative values and patriotism as aligning with the board's advisory mission.
The appointment underscores ongoing efforts to maintain conservative perspectives in federal advisory roles amid broader political shifts. Kirk's tenure is expected to begin immediately as part of the president's five appointees to the board.
