Australian actress claims pop superstar assaulted her in 2006 nightclub incident; Perry's representative calls allegations "reckless lies" and denies any wrongdoing

April 13, 2026 — Australian actress and model Ruby Rose has publicly accused pop superstar Katy Perry of sexual assault, alleging the incident occurred nearly two decades ago at a nightclub in Melbourne, Australia. The allegations surfaced today across multiple major entertainment news outlets, prompting an immediate and forceful denial from Perry's representative, who characterized the claims as "reckless lies" and "dangerous."

According to reports from USA Today, People magazine, Complex, and other major outlets, Rose alleges that Perry sexually assaulted her at an Australian nightclub approximately 20 years ago, placing the alleged incident around 2006. At the time, both individuals were present at the Melbourne venue, though the specific circumstances leading up to the alleged encounter remain unreported in publicly available accounts. The allegations mark a significant escalation in any prior public interactions between the two entertainers, who have operated in overlapping celebrity circles for years.

In a statement issued to multiple news organizations, Perry's representative strongly rejected the allegations, calling them "reckless lies" and dismissing them as "dangerous." The Hollywood Reporter and Rolling Stone both cited Perry's team as forcefully denying any wrongdoing, with Variety reporting that Perry's camp described the claims as unfounded. The consistent and strongly worded denials suggest Perry's team may pursue additional action regarding what they characterize as false allegations, though no specific legal proceedings have been confirmed at this time.

Rose, 39, rose to prominence through her role in Netflix's "Orange Is the New Black" and later starred as the title character in The CW's "Batwoman" before departing the series. She has been an outspoken advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and   has previously used her platform to discuss personal struggles and industry experiences. Perry, 41, is one of the world's best-selling music artists, with hits including "I Kissed a Girl," "Teenage Dream," and "Roar."

Neither Rose nor Perry has issued additional public statements beyond the initial allegations and denial, respectively. The allegations come amid continued industry-wide scrutiny of sexual misconduct claims and the handling of such allegations in the   entertainment sector.
